The Grand Trianon was commissioned by the Sun King Louis XIV in 1670 to get away from the demanding hectic life of the Court of Versailles and to pursue his affair with Madame de Montespan. The Grand Trianon was synonymous to a haven of privacy and relaxation at Versailles. The Palace was later occupied by Marie Leszczynska, Queen of Louis XV, during the summer months. Marie Antoinette, Queen of Louis XVI, preferred The Petit Trianon which was gifted to her by the King. Much later, Napoleon I moved in here with his new wife Marie Louise, great-niece of Marie Antoinette. During the July monarchy, King Louis Philippe also moved in here along with his whole family. The Palace was subsequently made a museum until 1963, when General Charles de Gaulle had it converted to a presidential residence to accommodate foreign dignitaries on behalf of France. In this album, I share with you my favourite pieces of The Grand Trianon.
